According to a recent interview by TPCG with Senior Producer Ben Cousins of Dice, there are no plans for mod support with Battlefield Heroes.
"Total PC Gaming: Will BFH support mods?
BC: I’d love to add it. It’s an automatic download and automatic patching system, because that system is to make the game simpler to install we can’t just have people jumping off and downloading a mod from somewhere and adding because then what servers do they play on, and it kind of makes things a bit complex. But
maybe a few years down the line when we’ve established ourselves we could have authorised mods, for example, so if someone creates a mod and submits it to us and we think it would be a good addition to the game we could roll that out as an official mod.
TPCG: Can we expect an SDK in the future? BC: If we feel the community is going to respond positively to mods and stuff then we would put out an SDK, there’s no plans for the immediate future, we need to see how people play it and how they want to play it."
TPCG: Would you accept submissions and suggestions from players? BC: The community are the people playing the game so they should be a voice you listen to when you’re creating the content for the game, it’s a democracy. We don’t want to get on our high horse as game developers and say we know what’s right for you.
If people put together a petition and come and visit the office and throw fruit at us because we haven’t added half-tracks with flame-throwers on them, then we’ll add half-tracks with flame-throwers on them. User-created content and modding, we love the idea of it, we all love the YouTubes and the Facebooks and that’s becoming a key part of people’s entertainment lives now, so if we could add it to the game we would love to do it. We need to get out there and define what the game is first before people give us suggestions.
TPCG: Where did the idea for Battlefield Heroes originate?: JS: It goes back to the silliness of Codename: Eagle. It was partly about running around shooting each other but it was also just about goofing off. A plane’s trying to take off and 20 people try and stand on its wings and try to stay there as long as they can. Strapping your jeep full of explosives then jumping out and driving it into a base."
You heard them community, start throwing fruit...
